NIGEL FORMAN has resigned his post as a junior minister at the Department for Education for 'personal reasons', Downing Street said last night.

He is to be replaced as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education by Timothy Boswell, 50, officials said. Mr Boswell, the Conservative MP for Daventry, was a senior Government whip.

Mr Forman, 49, who has been MP for Carshalton and Wallington in Surrey since 1976, had a majority at the last general election of 9,943.
