Campaign group No More Page 3 is celebrating the one year anniversary of tabloid The Sun dropping topless photos of women, but warns there are more issues to be tackled.

Various other UK publications post naked pictures of women.

It was one year ago this week that The Sun featured its final page 3 after a petition created by Lucy-Anne Holmes had gathered close to a quarter of a million signatures. This week readers, protestors and politicians alike have taken to Twitter to celebrate.

One reader said: “I can do the crossword with my family without feeling awkward!”

Walthamstow Labour MP Stella Creasy also advocated her support for the campaign.

However, the newspaper refused to go quietly.

One week after it had allegedly dropped the topless photos in January last year, page 3 was brought back for one last "surprise" issue.

Head of PR for The Sun, Dylan Sharpe, tweeted a picture of a topless model and tagged in various people who had opposed page 3.


 

He apologised for the tweet following public outrage.

The campaign has never left the headlines for long. UK Commons speaker John Bercow has abolished slogan T-shirts this month following Green MP Caroline Lucas wearing a “No More Page 3” T-shirt in Parliament last year.
