Lib Dem victory

Liberal Democrats gained a Labour council seat in a west London by-election in a result that eased fears of escalating support for the far right. Roy Haines won at Feltham South, Hounslow with a 15-vote majority over Labour. The National Front polled 261 to come fourth.
