Police arrested a 21-year-old man today after a car plunged 20ft down an embankment into a lake, killing two teenagers.

Anwen Busby, 16, and Jai Burks, 19, died in the crash on the A44 at Ponterwyd, near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, in the early hours of this morning.

The car, which was also carrying two other 16-year-old girls and a 21-year-old man, ended up in water up to 4ft deep, Dyfed Powys Police said.

Two people had to be cut free by firefighters and needed treatment for their injuries at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.

A fifth person managed to escape from the car before rescuers arrived.

Devastated friends of the dead teenagers visited the scene today to leave a floral tribute.

Antony Charnock, 20, said: "I spoke with them all on the phone last night a couple of hours before the crash.

"They had picked up the girls and gone for a drive in the country.

"This is devastating. We were all good friends. I knew all five. It seems unreal."
