Cannabis forest 'the size of a football pitch' discovered in London

...and there's a gazebo right in the middle of it

When police officers were called to investigate 'a few cannabis plants' in a wealthy south London suburb they could not have imagined what they would find.

It turns out there was a 'forest' of around 150 marijuana trees in the scrubland of Kingston-upon-Thames, right around Lower Marsh Lane.

Officers said it's the size of a football pitch, with plants up to five-foot-tall.

They even found a gazebo in amongst the weedy wilderness.

Police posed for photos in the grand marijuana forest, posting them on social media alongside hashtags like #TheseArentXmasTrees and #WeedKiller.

They've since secured the area, and are now looking for the people responsible.

Kingston Pc Sarah Henderson told the Evening Standard: "The area these plants were growing on was the size of a football pitch, it looked like a small forest of Christmas trees and was complete with a gazebo.

"Whoever set this up used a really remote spot - the only way to get there was a 20 minute walk through wasteland.

"But all their time, trouble and gardening skills will go unrewarded, as the whole lot will now be destroyed by police."

Cannabis is class B drug; growing, possessing or distributing it is illegal.
