A man who was captured on camera carrying blue lights stolen from a police car, is being sought by for questioning by detectives.

Investigators released a CCTV image of the culprit carrying his ill gotten gain on his shoulder at Sunderland Railway Station in the early hours of Boxing Day morning.

"Officers believe the man shown in these CCTV images may have information which could help their investigation," a spokesperson for the British Transport Police said.

It is unclear whether the man took the lights himself.

In nearby Leeds, Polish national Maksym Polomka died after being serious injured in during a fight on Boxing Day morning.

Two men, ​Pawel Stragowski, 27, and 29-year-old Tomasz Dybicz have been charged with his murder.
