Situated in the west London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Parsons Green has long been considered as the most "aristocratic" part of the area.

At its historic centre lie two open spaces, the Green itself and Eelbrook Common.

Its Zone 2 underground station is on the Wimbledon branch of the District line.

The line runs from Wimbledon in south-west London through busy stations including Earl's Court and Paddington to Edgware Road.

It is used by more than 6.7m passengers a year.

The tube carriage was packed with commuters when the explosion took place during the morning rush hour.

Witnesses said people were "pushed and trampled on" as panic unfolded on the train, which was travelling north to Edgware Road.
