Kuwait-born Emwazi lived in west London and attended the University of Westminster before fleeing England and travelling to Syria in 2012.
Emwazi was named by friends quoted in The Washington Post as the man behind the mask in footage released by Isis.
A picture emerged today purporting to show Emwazi as a child sitting with his former classmates in primary school.
The 27-year-old was reportedly described as a keen footballer and a diligent student by former friends and teachers.
