From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The driver of a Lamborghini supercar was fighting for his life today after the vehicle left the track of an airfield and flipped upside down into the garden of a house.

Police were called to the scene in Stockport, Greater Manchester, shortly after 11am yesterday following reports a hired sports car had been in a crash.

They found the Lamborghini on its roof in the garden of a nearby house having left the track at Woodford Aerodrome.

The driver, a 58-year-old man was taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical.

A 21-year-old man suffered minor bruising and has been discharged from hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said no other vehicles were involved.

Sergeant Danny Byrne from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "We believe the vehicle was being driven at a high speed and it is likely the driver may have lost control.

"Members of the family are being comforted by specially trained officers at this difficult time."
