Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The parents of an 11-year-old world racing champion who died after a stock car crash in Scotland have paid tribute to their "much loved" son.
Keir Millar was left in a critical condition by the accident at Lochgelly Raceway in Fife on Saturday.
The young racer, from Lockerbie, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, where he died at around 4pm on Monday.
In a statement, his family said they were “extremely distraught”.
Keir was remembered as "a much loved son and brother and will be sadly missed by all who knew him".
"Due to the injuries sustained in an accident at the weekend Keir has sadly passed away," the statement added.
"We, as a family, request space and time to grieve in private."
The youngster was competing in the Ministox racing series for 10 to 15-year-olds and won the Ninja Kart Championship in England last year.
A race at Lochgelly scheduled for Friday has been cancelled out of respect and fellow racers are being urged to paint their bumpers gold to pay tribute to the boy.
In a post on Facebook, Hardie Race Promotions (HRP) described the Keir as "a fantastic young man who was always smiling and loved his racing".
It added: "A world champion at the age of 10 years- old, Keir demonstrated talent, ability and, above all, maturity far beyond his years and he will be greatly missed by all at HRP.
"We would like to once again extend our condolences to the Keir's parents and to the entire Millar family who we are all thinking of at this horrific time; there are no words to express the feelings of the entire stock community today and we all stand shoulder to shoulder with you.
"RIP Keir Millar."
