A man who used a cement mixer to supply chicken doner meat to kebab shops around London and south-east England has been jailed and ordered to pay a fine of more than £50,000.

Sukru Ahmet, 60, from Sidcup, was found to be storing six tonnes of frozen poultry which did not have a use-by date or had expired.

Mr Ahmet’s company UK Chicken Doner and Poultry Ltd, based in Swanley in Kent, was also selling chicken from Germany labelled as British meat.

He was also found to be processing meat using a converted cement mixer.

Mr Ahmet admitted to 21 charges of breaking food safety laws at Maidstone Crown Court in March.

He has been jailed for four months and ordered to pay fines and costs of £53,760 and he has been banned from running a food business in the future.

Hygiene inspectors raided his Swanley plant and Mr Ahmet promised to cease operations, but two months later, he was found to still be processing meat.

He was issued another warning, but a further inspection several months later found Mr Ahmet was still selling poultry products, including doner kebab meat.

The meat was later ruled by magistrates to be unfit for human consumption.

Sevenoaks councillor Matthew Dickins said: “This is one of the most serious breaches of food safety laws the council has ever come across.

“Consumers must have confidence that their meat is prepared in a safe, approved environment and is fit for them to eat.”
