Police are appealing for the mother of a small child who was found unattended in a pram to come forward.
Humberside Police said the child, a girl aged between 12 and 18 months old, was found in a pram on Southcoates Lane, Hull.
Police were called to the scene in the early hours today by a member of the public.
The child was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary to be examined and is now safe and well in the care of the local authority, police said.
A police spokeswoman added: "It is not known at this stage how long the child had been there and police are carrying out a number of inquiries in the local area.
"Investigations are on-going to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify the child and her mother.
"Police are concerned for the welfare of the mother of the child and would ask anyone who knows her or for the mother herself to contact police as a matter of urgency." PA
