Around 15 firefighters remained today at the scene of a large blaze in commercial buildings near a city centre.

West Yorkshire Fire Service said crews from across the brigade area were called to a fire in a building in Thornton Road, which is about half a mile from Bradford city centre.

At its height yesterday, the incident involved 10 crews, including eight large jets and two aerial platforms.

But a spokesman said nobody has been reported missing.

Crews contained the blaze but firefighters remained overnight so the seat of a fire could be tackled in daylight.

A spokesman said today: "We've got two pumps and an aerial appliance damping it down, and waiting until daylight to clear the debris and reassess the situation."

Crews were called to the incident, close to the junction of Thornton Road and Preston Street, at 3.59pm yesterday.

Thornton Road, one of the main routes into Bradford city centre, was shut by police.

A fire investigation officer will return to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, the fire service spokesman said.
