Motorcyclist dies after crash with 61-year-old cyclist, who survives
Both men were travelling in same direction when collision occurred
A motorcyclist died after colliding with a 61-year-old cyclist – who managed to survive the incident.
Both men were airlifted to hospital after the crash close to Settle, North Yorkshire, but the motorcyclist – a 36-year-old from Rochdale – died a short time later. The biker, from Colne, in Lancashire, is in a serious but stable condition.
Neither have yet been named.
Police said both vehicles were travelling in the same direction on an unclassified road between the villages of Wigglesworth and Rathmell when the accident occurred on Sunday morning.
The motorbike – a Suzuki GSX-R – was approaching from behind, officers said.
The way in which both bikes were being ridden is forming a central part of the investigation.
“Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward, as well as anyone who recalls seeing the manner of riding of either vehicle prior to the collision," North Yorkshire Police said in an online statement.
“They also wish to thank the members of the public who stopped at the scene and assisted in administering first aid.”
