Police say hit-and-run outside mosque is not terror related

Two teenagers were injured in what police think may have been a targeted attack

Police in Birmingham say a hit and run outside a mosque which left two teenagers injured was not terror-related, but was likely to have been a targeted attack.

Detectives are continuing to search for the silver car which did not stop at the scene after hitting the two young men on Ettington Road, Aston, at around 2.15pm on Friday.

West Midlands Police said both victims were in hospital being treated for their injuries.

A 19-year-old man was left with head and back injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 17-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with head and leg injuries which are not serious.

Detective Sergeant Adam Williams said: "We are still trying to establish the motive for the attack and we are looking at CCTV opportunities from the surrounding area.

"I'd really like to hear from anyone who has any information or CCTV of the incident or who may have dash cam footage."

Others within the community, including Shabana Mahmood, MP for Birmingham Ladywood and local activist Desmond Jaddoo urged anyone who may know anything to contact the police.

Mr Jaddoo also called for “calm” following the incident, which he said had “caused a lot of tension” within the community.
