Mother who ‘shone with life’ killed while walking dog

A mother-of-one who “shone with life” has been killed after a motorcycle crashed into her while she was out walking her dog.

Lucy Machin, 55, was out walking the family dog, Rosie, in the early morning when a motorbike collided with her on the A140.

While the dog was unharmed and the motorcyclist suffered only minor injuries, Lucy, a counsellor from Norwich, Norfolk, tragically lost her life two days later at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

She leaves behind her husband Rob and 16-year-old son Joe.

In a heartfelt tribute, Rob said: “We were lucky enough to have Lucy in our lives for these past 23 years.

“Lucy fought rheumatoid arthritis for much of her adult life and yet she always shone with life and kindness.

“She gave so much, through her work with the Samaritans, Cancer Research and more recently as a counsellor.

“We feel blessed to have shared so much precious time with Lucy.”

Lucy was walking her dog on Colman Road in Norwich on November 17 just after 7:15am when a blue and white Yamaha 125 motorcycle collided with her.

She passed away in hospital from traumatic brain injuries as a result of the collision.

An inquest into her death opened on November 24 and will continue next year.

The police have not yet confirmed how or why the collision occurred and have appealed for dashcam footage or witnesses of the incident to come forward.

Her husband Rob added: “She is so missed by her family, her friends in Great Yarmouth, London and Norwich and the people she reached out to help.

“Lucy will stay with us all.

“We will miss her, we will always love her and we know she will be warm, floating above us and helping us to move on.”
