More than 50 fire fighters are tackling a blaze that broke out in a themed nightclub in the centre of London.

Fire fighters were called to the scene in Ganton Street, Soho, after the blaze is thought to have started in the basement of and on the dancefloor of club Cirque Le Soir at around 4.55am before spreading from the nightclub to nearby offices and a restaurant.

Nobody is thought to have been injured in the fire, just off from London’s famous Carnaby Street.

“Eight fire engines and more than 50 fire fighters are currently tackling a fire at a range of offices, restaurant and nightclub on Ganton Street in Soho,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson said.

Cirque Le Soir is popular with celebrities – among them Cara Delevingne and Rihanna – and last night was running its notorious “Censored” evening, with the club’s Instagram telling attendees to “bring out your inner freak”.

The venue, which has a capacity of 300 and an over 21 only policy, stages live fire shows and adult performers, and is among London’s most exclusive with entry and a table starting at £1,000.

Photographs from the scene show officers, called from Soho, Euston, Lambeth, Kensington, Paddington and Islington fire stations, still present and tackling the blaze.

Fire engines can be seen blocking the street from pedestrians as fire officers work to re-open the busy shopping centre.
