Wood Green police shooting: Man dies after being shot in intelligence led raid in north London

The operation in Bracknell Close was not linked to terrorism, the Met Police confirmed

A man has died after being shot by police during an “intelligence led operation” in north London that also led to four men being arrested.

The unidentified male was shot at around 9am in Bracknell Close, Wood Green, during an operation by the Met Police's Organised Crime Command and Specialist Firearms Operational Command Unit, who focus on gang crime.

His death was confirmed by police shortly after 10.30am.

The incident, which was not related to terrorism, was attended by London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service. There were no other injuries.

Two men were arrested at the scene in north London, with a further two also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to facilitate the escape of an individual from lawful custody. All four are being held in different stations across the city and the Met has declined to release any further information on them.

A witness said residents were only aware of the incident after hearing a helicopter landing in nearby White Hart Lane.

"Then I saw three or four red suited person running out of the park and I followed to the scene,” the individual told the Evening Standard.

"[It was] all cordoned off with tape and a police car."

They claimed the ambulance took off at around 10.15am.

The Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed, and inquiries into the incident are on-going.
