Victim of fatal New Year’s Day stabbing named as third teenager is arrested

The young man killed in a New Year’s Day house party stabbing has been named, as a third teenager was arrested in connection with the incident.

Steve Frank Narvaez-Jara, 20, from south London, was pronounced dead at a house party in Islington after he was stabbed.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Thursday and remains in custody, alongside an 18-year-old man and another 19-year-old man who has been bailed, the Metropolitan Police said.

Another 20-year-old man, who was stabbed in the same attack, is currently in a stable but critical condition in hospital.

Mr Narvaez-Arias’ family said in a statement: “Someone has taken away our only beautiful son and brother without thinking about the pain and sadness that it has caused our family and friends, especially his two-year-old sister and two older sisters aged 15 and 16, they all loved him unconditionally.

“We pray to God that Steve’s death brings knife crime to an end.”

DCI Andrew Packer, of the Met's homicide command, said: “I am appealing to anyone who attended the party to come forward and speak to police, I need to trace everyone who was present as they may be witnesses to this violent attack.”

The attacks were among a string of knifings that blighted the start of the year in the capital.

Three other young men were also stabbed to death in unrelated attacks across the city in the space of 24 hours.

A 17-year-old boy, named by police as Kyall Parnell, was stabbed on New Year’s Eve and a post-mortem examination gave a preliminary cause of death as single stab wound to the heart.

Taofeek Lamidi, 20, was killed and pronounced dead on the same night after also being stabbed in the heart.

One 16-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of his murder, while another boy, also 16, was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

An 18-year-old was killed in Enfield on the morning of 31 December, taking the number of people stabbed to death in the capital last year to 80, Scotland Yard said.

Of those, 18 involved victims under the age of 19.

Five males, aged between 17 and 21, have been arrested in connection with the Enfield attack.
