Police chase in Surrey ends with teenage driver 'trying to crush' officer

A teenage driver was captured on dashcam footage ramming a stolen car into a police officer after a high-speed chase in Surrey.

Ramone Kidd, 19, ploughed into Sergeant Chris Schultze when he was boxed in by four patrol vehicles next to a roadside barrier.

Sgt Schulze was one of three officers left with injuries after the incident on the A22 Godstone Bypass in the early hours of 13 June.

The officer has since returned to duty, while Kidd is serving a 23-month prison sentence.

Kidd was already banned from driving when he was spotted in the car which had been linked to a burglary in Oxted eight days earlier.

The dashcam footage shows officers boxing the vehicle in on the dual carriageway using a special manoeuvre.

Kidd first rried to swerve into one of the police cars before his car spun round 180 degrees and ended up on the central reservation.

He then attempted to reverse, only to hit another police car as an officer clambered on to the bonnet to smash the windscreen.

Kidd made his final bid to escape when Sgt Schulze moved in front of the car holding a Taser.

The car surged forward into the officer, forcing him against the barrier "in what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to knock the officer over", said police.

Kidd, from Sutton, south London, was hauled from the car by two of Sgt Schulze's colleagues and arrested.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and actual bodily harm, and was sentenced to 23 months' imprisonment.

Detective Sergeant Kerry Akehurst, from the Criminal Investigation Department, praised the professionalism of the officers, and said: “The role of a police officer is to protect the public, and each day officers put their lives at risk to apprehend suspects and protect the public.

"During this particular incident, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and in doing so, three officers received injuries and four police vehicles sustained damage.”
