A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed to death at a property in Suffolk.

Police were called to reports someone had been injured in a stabbing in Newmarket, a market town near Cambridge, on Thursday night.

The victim died at the scene, Suffolk Police said.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is believed to have known the woman, police said.

Enquiries are ongoing and the suspect has been taken for questioning.

Emergency services were alerted of a stabbing in Brickfields Avenue in Newmarket around 9.30pm, according to police.

Air ambulance and paramedics arrived but could not save the victim, who died at the property.

The road remained closed early Friday morning, police said.

They have appealed for anyone with information on the incident or who saw suspicious activity to contact Suffolk Police on 101 or through their website, quoting CAD number 400 of 16 January 2020.
