The Metropolitan Police’s gang crime unit has launched an investigation into a shooting that took place close to a play area in London.

Officers were called to Heron Close in Willesden, north-west London at 3pm on Wednesday after a 33-year-old man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg. He is in a serious but stable condition.

Police believe more than one shot may have been fired. No arrests have been made and enquiries are on-going.

Officers from Trident and Area Crime Command are urging witnesses or anyone with information pertaining to the incident to contact police.

Detective Sergeant Jez Dargan said: "The shooting took place in a residential estate in the middle of the afternoon.

“The local schools are currently on half term and this shooting occurred very close to a children's play area. We are appealing to anybody who was in the area at the time who saw or heard anything to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call 020 8358 0012 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
