Wayne Jones: Rapist arrested after escape from open prison in Lincolnshire

A rapist serving a life sentence who escaped from an open prison near Boston in Lincolnshire has been arrested.

Police had warned the public not to approach Wayne Jones, who is an inmate at HMP North Sea Camp.

The 39-year-old fled the Category D open prison on Sunday evening, prompting police to warn members of the public not to approach him.

Lincolnshire Police said in a tweet on Monday: “Wayne Jones, who absconded from HMP North Sea Camp yesterday evening, has been located.

“The 39-year-old has been arrested in relation to absconding. Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal.”

In July, the governor of HMP North Sea Camp was criticised for referring to inmates as “residents” as part of the open prison’s “rehabilitative culture”.

While the prison officers’ trade union said the move was “ill thought-out”, the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) said the prison had successfully created “a polite and calm atmosphere”.
