Oxford armed siege: Armed man who held toddler twins is arrested

An armed man who held his twin daughters at an address in Oxford has been arrested, police have confirmed.

Thames Valley Police led the man away in handcuffs just after 3:30pm and both girls are thought to have been reunited with their mother.

A police spokesperson said they had been called to deal with an incident at a property in Morton Avenue, Kidlington, at 3.40am on Tuesday.

A woman, believed to be the man's partner is believed to have alerted police after escaping from the property.

A 38-year-old man was holding two twin girls at an address, but released one of the children at 9:45am. The man was in regular communication with the police and had not requested anything in exchange for their release.

The second girl emerged shortly before midday. Six police in full protective gear carried the child out of the address, according to the Oxford Mail.

He is believed to be the father of the children, but is estranged from the mother and does not live at that address.

A cordon has been placed around the property and approximately 50 armed officers were deployed.

They said the road surrounding the property had been closed to allow police operations to safely take place.
