A 15-year-old who was attacked by two muggers has lost the sight in his right eye, police revealed today.
The boy, who has not been named, underwent emergency treatment after being punched in the face by one of two men who made off with his mobile phone.
West Midlands Police said the teenager was walking along New John Street in Halesowen when he was attacked shortly after 10pm on Tuesday 1 September.
"The main offender punched the lad to the face, causing a severe eye injury," a police spokesman said.
"The boy returned home, and relatives then took him to hospital where he received emergency treatment; however, the victim's sight could not be saved in his right eye."
The boy was a member of a local running club prior to the attack, but has since had to give up his membership, while his college education has also been greatly affected.
Anyone with information about the offence is urged to call Halesowen CID on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
