CCTV has been released showing the moment a masked gunman pointed his weapon in the face of a shopkeeper in Darlington.

Despite the threat, shopkeeper Seema Dhutti refused to hand over any money and instead pressed the panic alarm.

The gunman proceeded to smash the glass counter in anger, accidentally causing the magazine to fall out of his gun, and he fled the off-licence empty-handed.

Mrs Dhutti said that “he just pointed the gun straight at me and said ‘f***ing give me the money’ over and over.

“I thought he was going to shoot me and I was going to die – but I was determined not to give him any money.”

A Durham Police spokesman said: "A 34-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody."
