A 22-year-old man was arrested following the death of an 11-year-old girl who was injured in an accident at a watersports centre, police said today.

Paramedics and police officers were called to the Princes Club in Clockhouse Lane, Bedfont, west London, at 5pm yesterday.

The girl was taken to hospital where she died, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The spokesman said: "We were called to the Princes Club at 1700 yesterday.

"London Ambulance Service and South Coast Ambulance Service also attended.

"An 11-year-old-girl was found seriously injured.

"She was treated and taken to hospital where she died."

A post-mortem examination will be carried out, he added.

The girl, from London, was understood to have been on an inflatable being towed by a boat when she fell off and was struck by the boat, according to sources.

A message posted on the Princes Club website said: "Due to a tragic accident on Sat the 11th September, the club will be closed while a thorough investigation is conducted."
