Isis: Bradford man jailed for sharing extremist group's Dabiq propaganda magazine on his Facebook page
The judge said the jail term was intended as a "deterrent" to others
A man who shared links to Isis’ propaganda magazine on Facebook has been jailed for 18 months.
Hassan Munir, from Bradford, was handed the sentence for sharing issue four of the extremist group’s Dabiq magazine to hundreds of Facebook friends last October.
The 27-year-old ignored repeated warnings from police officers and Facebook against posting extremist material – including about beheadings, the Old Bailey heard.
He also previously posted instructions on how to make explosives, as well as other pro-Isis documents.
The magazine posed a serious danger because it incited people to take up arms for Isis, which has claimed large areas of Syria and Iraq under the guise of its so-called Islamic State (IS), Mr Justice Saunders said as he sentenced Munir.
Mr Saunders continued that the document distributed by Isis’ media arm is "lengthy and is clearly a professionally-produced document" which encourages readers to fight and kill for the group.
"It is the sort of document that could well influence susceptible people, including the young, to do what the document urges them to do," he said.
The judge rejected Munir’s explanation that he posted the link to the document on Facebook in case he lost it.
Mr Justice Saunders said: "Mr Munir denies he is a supporter of Isil [Isis] His case is that he has sympathy with some of the extremist cause but he's against the acts of violence.
"In light of the material on his Facebook, I find that difficult to accept."
The judge said he was passing a jail term to make it clear a "deterrent" is important in such cases.
Munir pleaded guilty to disseminating a terrorist publication.
