Greater Manchester Police claims to have solved the age-old problem of what to do when you get ripped off by a drug dealer – tell officers so they can “have a word”.

The force’s light-hearted take on the issue (an admittedly serious one of the unregulated black market for illegal drugs) has gone down a storm on Twitter, with a joke tweet receiving dozens of responses and thousands of retweets.

GMP’s Urmston branch wrote: “Annoyed with your drug dealer? Tell us who it is and we'll have a word with them for you.”

It represents a marked viral success for the force, which often receives no retweets whatsoever, but judging by the similarly jokey responses is unlikely to help catch any more drug dealers.
