English drug dealer not sentenced in Wales because he doesn't understand the accent

A drug dealer from the West Midlands has reportedly refused to appear in court in Wales - because he doesn’t understand the Welsh accent.

Dwaine Campbell, from Wolverhampton, was arrested in Aberystwyth on suspicion of possessing heroin with intent to supply. He admitted the charges.

The 25-year-old was due to appear at Swansea Crown Court to be sentenced but refused to leave his prison cell, according to Wales Online.

His barrister said Mr Campbell couldn’t understand what anyone was saying and argued that Welsh court staff could not understand his client's English accent either.

“He is worried that if he is sentenced here, he will end up in a jail in Wales and have the same difficulties," she told the news website.

Apparently accepting this argument, the judge agreed to sentence Mr Campbell via video link "so he can stay in the West Midlands".
