Eight police officers have been injured following a confrontation with a teenage girl who had not paid for her bus fare in East London.

Transport for London (TfL) inspectors found the 15-year-old passenger without a valid ticket at around 6pm on Friday evening in the borough of Hackney.

Several of the officers sustained facial injuries following the altercation with a large group of passengers.

Two girls, aged 15 and 16, and an 18-year-old male were arrested following the incident on, with additional officers being sent for back-up. The 15-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of fare evasion.

Two officers were taken to an east London hospital for treatment and have since been discharged, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

The three arrested teenagers remain in police custody and enquiries continue.

Anyone with information on the incident or with mobile phone footage that may assist the investigation is asked to call Hackney CID on 07825 793 215.
