11-year-old boy reported to police after being 'found with cannabis'
The incident allegedly happened at a school in South Lanarkshire
An 11-year-old primary school pupil has been reported to the police after allegedly being caught with cannabis at school.
Officers were called to a school in South Lanarkshire on 21 December. It is understood the boy’s parents were notified about the incident before the end of term.
The pupil has been referred to the Youth Justice Co-ordinator. Police in Scotland said a decision is being made whether to assign the matter on to social workers or to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administrator.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “An 11 year-old male pupil at a primary school in South Lanarkshire has been referred to the Youth Justice Co-ordinator (a police officer within the Restorative Department) for alleged drugs offences.
“A decision has still to be made as to disposal – whether a referral to the Early and Effective Intervention Co-ordinator – a multi-agency team with a social work lead – or a police report to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administrator.”
A spokesman for South Lanarkshire Council said: “We are aware of the incident.”
