A Dutch model is reportedly in a critical condition in hospital after falling off a surfboard in Italy.

Yfke Sturm is understood to have fallen off a motorised 'jet surf' and fractured her skull and a number of her vertebrae, meaning she could be at risk of paralysis, The Telegraph reports.

She was taken it to the Rizzoli hospital on the island on Ischia before being transferred to a specialist unit in Naplres, where it is understood that she is still being treated.

Sturm recently gave birth to a son, Alexander, and lives in London. The 33-year-old has modelled for the underwear brand Victoria’s Secret and clothing brand Calvin Klein, among others, and ran her own charity, Yfke 4 Kids, which supports children affected by Aids.

A spokesperson for Next Model Management confirmed to The Independent that Sturm was injured during an incident last week, but could not comment on her condition.

The agency said in a statement: “We were shocked to hear about this terrible accident and our thoughts and prayers are with Yfke and her family at this time for her speedy recovery.”
