From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"I have heard so many things about my interviews over the years that I just take it on the chin and roll with it. I conduct all my interviews professionally," she told the Evening Standard.
"What's important is that our viewers enjoy them. How other people interpret it is up to them."
Reid has previously explained that part of interviewing people is putting them at ease, and that being friendly helps them relax.
"Any interviewer's mission is to get the best from a guest," she told The Mirror. "I enjoy the interviews I do and it would be bizarre, wouldn't it, if I didn't laugh at a guest's joke, or didn't smile?"
Saying she never wanted to be "rude" or "stonewalling" to her guests, Reid said that the way her interviews were reported was unfair.
"With David Cameron, firstly I do not suck my pen because that would be weird. I’d end up with ink all around my mouth. I chew my pen."
"And that’s just what I do when I’m thinking. I do it with all my interviews, including those with women. I’m not accused of flirting with them, am I?"
In 2013, Reid was criticised for a flirtatious interview with the Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner. When she asked if he would consider doing Strictly Come Dancing, he replied: "Of course... I should have been the one that said you look good on the dance floor."
