From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sarah Michelle Gellar remembered her close friend Robin Williams on the one year anniversary of his death with a touching tribute to one of his most memorable roles in Good Will Hunting.

The actress shared an image of the bench in Boston that has become a memorial to the star after he died in an apparent suicide at the age of 63. Gellar and Williams pair were on-screen father and daughter in the CBS sitcom The Crazy Ones, which ran until April 2014, five months before his death.

It later emerged that Williams had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and may have been suffering with a form of dementia associated with the condition when he ended his life.

Gellar honoured Williams, a man she once described as “the father I always dreamed of having” with a picture of the bench and a quote from the poet Ralph Waldo Emerson.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better wether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded"
