Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be...

It's my birthday today but I'd probably be sewing. I just left my sewing machine to talk to you. Or, I might be emailing. Sewing or emailing.

A phrase I use far too often...

"In this day and age." I always seem to be looking for things that aren't available in the UK and then I start moaning, "in this day and age..."

I wish people would take more notice of...

The environment. We had just started the spring-summer collection but the factory flooded. It's scary. We need to take notice of all the rubbish and packaging we produce.

A common misperception of me is...

Everyone thinks that if you work in fashion you have a really glamorous life but it's not true. People think you have everything but you're still in Dalston, making ends meet.

I am not a politician but if I were...

I would take everyone shopping for the day: Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges!

I'm good at...

I've never thought about that much... I've always done this. Um...sleeping? Eating? I love to draw - still life, that sort of thing.

I'm very bad at...

Saving money. Oh, and feeling guilty. I get really guilty hangovers. Maybe it's a Catholic thing.

In moments of weakness I...

Keep working: work harder, try again, keep thinking until I find a solution.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is this:

Try and try again. If something doesn't work out, there's always a solution.
