Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Prince has long been celebrated as an immensely skilled musician, but one performance captures the esteem in which he was held among his peers perhaps more than any other.
In a 2004 tribute performance marking George Harrison's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Prince, perform's Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps alongside Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and other musicians.
Towards the end of the live collaboration, Prince plays a frenetic guitar solo - as those alongside him on stage, themselves some of the world's greatest guitarists, look on with admiration.
At one point, Prince even leans backwards into the audience while continuing the solo.
He ends the performance by throwing his guitar into the air in front of him as his final notes ring out.
"I want to be friends with him," Harrison's son, Dhani, said backstage on the night. "We're the same height."
Prince died at his recording studio aged 57.
He was hospitalised last week with flu, though the cause of his death is not yet known.
His death was confirmed by his spokesperson.
