From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Paul Simon and wife Edie Brickell were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on Saturday night, following an alleged domestic dispute, according to New Canaan Police in Connecticut.

They are scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court today.

Police were called at 8pm on Saturday evening about an incident at the couple’s New Canaan home.

They have been married for over 20 years and have three children, Adrian, Lulu and Gabriel.

Simon, 72, first became famous as one half of Simon and Garfunkel in 1964.

His work – including the hugely successful album Graceland - has earned him a total of 12 Grammys. He headlined Hard Rock Calling in London’s Hyde Park in 2012.

Brickell, 48, was the lead singer of Eighties folk band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians. Her first single, What I Am, was listed among VH1′s 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders.
