A post mortem examination for Michele Savoia – a New York designer whose clients include Ricky Martin and actor Robert De Niro – has been ruled inclusive.

The body of Savoia, 55, was pulled from the Hudson river last Sunday near the boat that he lived aboard. He had been missing for over a week.

Police do not suspect foul play, but medical examiners have requested more tests to determine what had caused his death.

Speaking to the New York Daily News, Savoia’s girlfriend, Juliane Berg, said: I knew he was in that water. I am so glad they found his body.“

A close friend also gave his personal opinion on what he thought had happened on that evening, telling the New York Times that Savoia had slipped on an aluminium ramp and plunged into the freezing river.

Savoia designed suits for a range of celebrity clients and owned a boutique on the city’s Lower East side neighbourhood.

He was last seen leaving a Manhattan nightclub on Thursday.
