David Schwimmer has become a father for the first time.

The former 'Friends' star's wife, Zoe Buckman, gave birth to a baby girl on May 8 in New York, his representative confirmed to People magazine.

The couple have named their new daughter Cleo Buckman Schwimmer and both mother and baby are doing well.

David, 44, and British photographer Zoe, 25, met in London in 2007 when David was directing comedy movie 'Run, Fat Boy, Run' with Simon Pegg and she was working as a waitress at the Cuckoo Club.

They announced their engagement in March 2010 and tied the knot in a private ceremony last June.

Before meeting Zoe, David - who has previously dated Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia and former S Club 7 star Tina Barrett - spoke of his desire to become a father, once he had found the right person.

He said: "It will happen when it feels right. Maybe part of me is waiting for myself to slow down a little and be ready to stay put. I'm confident it's gonna happen."
