JK Rowling had some sound advice for one Harry Potter fan on what to read while fasting for Ramadan.

Mujtaba Alvi, 21, tweeted the author to describe how her detailed descriptions of food in the series was making him hungry.

Rowling was quick to advise him to read the seventh installment in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, while abstaining from eating and drinking during daylight hours to mark the Muslim holy month.

Rowling is an outgoing Twitter user and often uses her page to communicate with fans. In one particularly memorable tweet she answered one who said she couldn't see Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore as gay with the response: "Maybe because gay people just look like ... people?"

She has also revealed new information about crucial characters in the series on the social network and this week explained why Harry Potter’s family treated him with such disdain.

Ramadan sees practicing Muslims only eat two meals a day; one before sunrise and one after sunset. It is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and commemorates when the Koran was first revealed to the Prophet Mohamed.
