From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Hillary Clinton may be one of the most recognisable faces in the US yet on her quest to be the champion of the everyday American, it seems that very demographic doesn't really know who she is.
After not surprisingly announcing her candidacy for the presidency at the weekend, Clinton embarked on a journey across several states from her home in New York to head to her first official campaign event in Monticello, Iowa. On the 1,000-mile journey, Clinton evidently became peckish and reportedly popped into a Chipotle chain in Maumee, Ohio.
However, when New York Times' Maggie Halberman made a call to the restaurant's manager, Charles Wright, he told her that her tip-off had been wrong. Wright, however, did say that he would check the store's security footage. When he did, he saw the unmistakable image of the former Secretary of State, wearing sunglasses, and ordering a chicken burrito bowl.
Wright told Halberman that his staff were "kicking themselves" for not recognising the former First Lady and presidential hopeful. Clinton, 67, was accompanied by her longtime and trusted aide Huma Abedin. Reports suggest Clinton had a chicken burrito bowl, guacamole, a chicken salad and a blackberry soft drink.
She's definitely going to have to work harder with the Chipotle crowd.
