Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Harry Styles has caused quite the Twitter storm this morning, after he accidentally (or deliberately - no one knows which) favourited porn.
Whether he meant to or not, he probably most definitely didn’t realise that the activity would appear on his feed and therefore to his 21.2million followers.
The explicit image was captioned with: “Retweet if you’d like me clean”
Styles showed his social media approval for the picture on 22 May, but his fans have only picked up on it now, prompting the hashtag #HarryDontLickAnything.
He has since unfavourited the image and favourited a series of kitten pictures instead in what is presumably a well-intentioned bid to preserve his clean-cut image.
Obviously, well aware of the attention his favouriting blunder had cultivated, he tweeted the following:
It’s not been an easy time of it for the One Direction PR team as of late, after a film emerged in May of Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking a “joint” while on route to a gig in Peru – where marijuana is legal. Tomlinson was also accused of making a racial slur, using the word n*g, on film.
Liam Payne took the moral high-ground and apologised for his bandmates' behaviour on Twitter.
“I love my boys and maybe things have gone a little sideways I apologise for that,” he tweeted.
“We are only in our 20's we all do stupid things at this age.
“We all have a lot of growing up to do in an extreme circumstance I'm not making excuse but it's fact we are gunna fall short somewhere.
“Hopefully we stand the test of time an get it right in the end I don't take this for granted and I'm extremely grateful to be here doing this.
“Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through this just know that we love you guys for it and it means the world.”
