Angie Bowie has made tabloid headlines during her time on the programme with a series of damning comments about the singer, who died on Sunday aged 69.
Channel 5 issued a statement in response to unfounded suggestions Ms Bowie might be told about her ex-husband's death live on TV.
A spokesman told The Independent: "Following the very sad news of David Bowie's death this morning, we can confirm that Angie Bowie will be informed off camera today at the earliest opportunity.
"We will update further once this has taken place," he added.
Ms Bowie, a 66-year-old former model, was married to the musician for a decade until she divorced him in 1980.
Their son Zowie, who changed his name to Duncan, is estranged from his mother.
