9 March: The Queen held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.
The Right Hon John Major MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of Her Majesty this evening.
By command of The Queen, the Viscount Long (Lord-in-Waiting) was present at Heathrow Airport, London, this afternoon upon the departure of The Duke of Edinburgh for Official Visits to the Commonwealth of Dominica, Montserrat, St Christopher and Nevis, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands and bade farewell to His Royal Highness on behalf of Her Majesty.
Mr Brian McGrath, Brigadier Miles Hunt-Davis and Wing Commander Christopher Moran RAF were in attendance.
9 March: The Prince Edward, Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, today gave a Luncheon at Buckingham Palace.

9 March: Major-General AL Watson today had the honour of being received by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Colonel-in-Chief, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), upon relinquishing his appointment as Colonel of the Regiment.
Brigadier G. Barnett also had the honour of being received by Her Majesty upon assuming his appointment as Colonel of The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment).
The Lady Angela Oswald has succeeded Miss Jane Walker-Okeover as Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
KENSINGTON PALACE
9 March: The Duchess of Gloucester was present this evening at a Performance by London City Ballet in aid of National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children at Derngate, Northampton.
Her Royal Highness was received on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for Northamptonshire (Mr John Lowther).
Mrs Michael Wigley was in attendance.
YORK HOUSE
9 March: The Duchess of Kent this morning visited Bury Hospice, Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Greater Manchester (Colonel John Timmins).
Her Royal Highness this afternoon officially opened the Trafford General Hospital's Maternity Unit and Mental Health Services Unit, Moorside Road, Davyhulme, Trafford.
The Duchess of Kent later officially opened Synergy House, at the Manchester Science Park, Lloyd Street North, Manchester, and, as President, visited the Royal Northern College of Music, Oxford Road, Manchester.
Mrs Julian Tomkins was in attendance.
The Duke of Kent this morning visited the Shaftesbury Homes' Arethusa Venture Centre, Lower Upnor, near Rochester, Kent.
Captain the Honourable Tom Coke was in attendance.

The Princess of Wales opens the Riverpoint Hostel for single, homeless women at Manor Place, London SE1. The Duke of Kent, President, the Scout Association, visits the association's Headquarters at Baden- Powell House, London SW7. Prince Michael of Kent visits Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd at Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, and later attends the Annual Medal Lecture of the International Institute of Biotechnology at the Royal Society, London SW1.
