BUCKINGHAM PALACE

30 November: Mr Sydney Chapman MP (Vice-Chamberlain of the Household) was received in audience by The Queen and presented Addresses from the House of Commons to which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to make reply.

1 December: Sir Fitzroy Maclean of Dunconnel Bt was received by The Queen when Her Majesty conferred upon him the Insignia of Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

Lady Maclean was also received by The Queen.

Mrs Justice Steel was received by The Queen upon her appointment as a Justice of the High Court when Her Majesty invested her with the Insignia of a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

His Excellency Monsieur Jean Gueguinou was received in audience by The Queen and presented the letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Court of St James's.

His Excellency was accompanied by the following members of the Embassy:

Monsieur Richard Narich (Minister Plenipotentiary, Minister Counsellor), Contre-Amiral Philippe Garibal (Defence Naval Attache), Monsieur Jean de Rosen (Minister Plenipotentiary, Head of Financial Department), Monsieur Francois Le Corre (Minister Plenipotentiary, Head of Commercial Department), Monsieur Philippe Bossiere (First Counsellor), Monsieur Georges Gautier (Minister Plenipotentiary, Consular Affairs), Monsieur Michel Lummaux (Cultural Consellor) and Monsieur Jean-Pierre Le Boucher d'Herouville (Attache Defence Procurement).

Sir David Gillmore (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) was present and the Household-in-Waiting were in attendance.

Her Majesty, Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Tank Regiment received Lieutenant-General Sir Jeremy Blacker (the Representative Colonel Commandant).

The Archbishop of Canterbury was received in audience by The Queen.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, this afternoon opened the new headquarters of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 33 Queen Street, London EC4.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were received by the President (Mr Brian Harris), Mr Brian Pearce (Deputy President) and the Lord Mayor (Alderman Paul Newall).

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh toured the building, escorted by the President and Deputy President, and Her Majesty subsequently unveiled a commemorative coat of arms.

The Duchess of Grafton, Sir Kenneth Scott and Major James Patrick were in attendance.

The Duke of Edinburgh this morning visited the 'Giles, a 50 Years Celebration' Exhibition at the National Museum of Cartoon Art, London NW1.

His Royal Highness, Senior Fellow, later presented the Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award at the Science Museum, London SW7.

Sir Brian McGrath and Major Charles Richards were in attendance.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron and Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, this evening gave a Dinner for Founder Charter Members at Buckingham Palace.

By command of The Queen, Captain Norman Lloyd-Edwards RNR (Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for South Glamorgan) was present at Cardiff Wales Airport this morning upon the Departure of The President of the Republic of Ireland and Mr Robinson and bade farewell to Her Excellency and Mr Robinson on behalf of Her Majesty.

1 December: The Prince Edward, Chairman, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Special Projects Group, this evening held a Reception for the Award's Diary Committee at Buckingham Palace.

1 December: The Princess Royal, Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Logistic Corps, this morning visited the Postal and Courier depot, Mill Hill, London NW7.

Her Royal Highness, Chancellor, University of London, this afternoon opened the Victor Goldman Unit, East Dental Hospital and Institute of Dental Surgery, Gray's Inn Road, London WC1.

The Princess Royal, Upper Warden, the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, this evening attended the Court and Ladies' Dinner, Haberdashers' Hall, Gresham Street, London EC2.
