From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Channel5 said that the Playboy model and singer, 33, would no longer appear on the 2015 series because of her “totally unacceptable” behaviour on social media.
Without giving further details, the broadcaster said it had been unaware of the “views and attitudes Tila had expressed” before she entered the house on Thursday, and said that her continued involvement in the show was “untenable”.
The mother-of-one, whose real name is Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen, expressed controversial views about the Nazi leader in a series of online posts, including a blog called “Why I sympathise with Hitler Part 1: True History Unveiled”.
Another Facebook post showed her wearing a swastika and an SS cap. All the posts have since been removed.
The entertainer has strongly denied that she is anti-semitic, and in 2012 said she was considering converting to Judaism.
As reports of Tequila’s alleged behaviour spread online, more than 500 people signed a petition calling for the eviction of US TV personality.
A Channel 5 spokesman said: “When they [Tequila’s views and attitudes] were brought to our attention, she was called to the Diary Room for a discussion with producers and was subsequently removed from the house.
Jonathan Sacerdoti, from the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism, said Channel 5 should “apologise fully for their enormous error of judgement”.
A spokesman for the Board of Deputies of British Jews said: “She should never have got anywhere near a programme on British television.”
Tequila, was one of 13 contestants in the 16th series of Celebrity Big Brother, which started on Thursday. She is best known for her bisexual-themed dating show, A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila.
She previously hit the headlines when her diabetic heiress fiancee Casey Johnson died in 2010 and when she had a sex tape released without her consent the following year.
