From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It took firefighters 45 minute to remove the 24-year-old from the wreckage. He was driving a Volvo Saloon on the A458 near Cressage, Shropshire, when the accident happened.
Ferry suffered multiple fractures and a head injury in the crash and was taken to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
"On arrival, crews found two cars that had suffered massive damage after a collision," said a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman. “The trapped man was in the first car. He suffered multiple fractures to his legs, pelvis, left arm and had a head injury.
"Working with firefighters, ambulance staff very carefully freed him. He was assessed at the scene and had splints put in place along with advanced pain relief before being taken to the major trauma centre."
Police are investigating the crash and are appealing for witnesses. Wellington fire service tweeted a picture of the wreckage:
Otis Ferry thanked the fire serviced for their efforts:
"He had a head-on collision, has lots of broken bones and is having an operation on his heart as we speak," Otis Ferry told the MailOnline.
"He was conscious before he went into theatre and his biggest concern was that he had missed Christmas! He is in the best possible hospital for this type of procedure."
The Roxy Music singer has four sons, Otis, Isaac, Tara and Merlin.
