From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The comedian has denied all claims.
“The man I met, and fell in love with, and whom I continue to love, is the man you all knew through his work,” she said.
“He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend. He is the man you thought you knew.”
She adds that she doesn’t recognise the man portrayed through the various allegations and through the media. Mrs Cosby has been married to the comedian for 50 years.
“A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months,” she said in a statement. “It is the portrait of a man I do not know.
“It is also the portrait painted by individuals and organisations whom many in the media have given a pass.”
She related her husband’s treatment to Rolling Stone’s recent controversial article about a rape at the University of Virginia which later proved to be false.
“The story was heart-breaking but ultimately appears to be proved to be untrue,” she said. “Many in the media were quick to link that story to stories about my husband.”
“None of us will ever want to be in the position of attacking the victim. But the question should be asked - who is the victim?”
Cosby recently praised his wife for her “love and strength” amid the many sexual assault allegations to have been made over the past few months.
