From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A star-struck Anne Hathaway completely lost all sense of composure when she realised her idol Mariah Carey was attending the premiere of her new film The Intern.

Hathaway was being interviewed for the Associated Press when she suddenly spotted one of the music industry's biggest divas walking up the red carpet. Her concentration began rapidly slipping and within no time the usually poised actress had transformed into a dithering mess.

“She’s at my premiere, I mean it’s Bob’s [Robert DeNiro] movie premiere more than mine," she said quickly. "Oh my God. I’m freaking out. She’s two arm lengths away right now."

Growing more flustered, she then praised Carey as “just the best glamorous ever”.

“She’s now an arm length away,” she whispered. “It’s fine, I’m going to meet here when the time is right. I just love that this is on camera right now."

The manically grinning actress managed to restrain herself from running up to Carey and declaring “I’m your biggest fan!” mid-interview. However, she did asked the camera to reposition itself so she could be on screen with her at the same time.
